Time to Celebrate!

We celebrated a few things this past week. Not only was it Pioneer Day but I turned another year older.

It was one of the best Birthdays I had. Matt really knows how to spoil me so my Birthdays are always great because of him. The morning of my birthday I woke up to Matt giving me cards from both him and the boys. Evan wished me a Happy Birthday with a hug and kiss and Alex gave me lots of smiles and coo's that morning. Matt's card had cash in it and he told me I was going on a shopping spree child free after we have lunch together. In the afternoon, Leanna came over after Matt's Dad to watch the boys for me so I can meet Matt to have lunch at Tucanos. It was very delicious!
Going shopping was fun. I scored some great deals in Shade and other places. I didn't want to be gone too long from my boys so I came home as fast as I could but I went back out with Leanna. My Mother In Law met up with us and she entertained Evan so I didn't have to worry about him. It was just a great day. Friday I got a surprise visit from Joseph and Ericka with presents. They were so thoughtful and generous! Joseph got me a really cute dress that fits me perfectly and Ericka got shoes to match, lotion and comfy socks from Bath and Body Works. With Pioneer Day the following day we shot off personal fireworks. Usually we do them on my birthday but Matt had a meeting that night but it was fun to extend the fun to Friday as well. My mom and youngest sister came over to watch. Nathan and Elizabeth came out with their camera and got some really nice pictures of Evan. They have a great eye. This was taken by Nathan

There were many times where I thought Evan would burn himself because he would put the sparkler so close to his face. Thank goodness he never touched it. I don't want him to be afraid of them because they're so fun.
Pioneer Day we woke up and headed down to Spanish Fork to see the parade. Evan was more interested in the play area at a day care than what was happening on the street so we had to take turns keeping him from going over there or wondering to other places. Needless to say, we didn't stay till the end. Alex was really good though. We went to the carnival again this year. He rode only one ride.


He looked like he enjoyed it but he kept saying "Too scared" when we went to the other rides. I guess we wont be going to Lagoon in the fall if he's "too scared".
We spent $19 on tickets and they were non-refundable. Luckily a guy standing in line to buy tickets bought them from me. I only made him pay $10 for them but it's better than nothing.
Later that evening our families and close friends got together for a BBQ. It was a joint celebration for me and Pioneer Day. Matt surprised me with a 410 Shotgun :). Can't wait to try it out! I love shooting clay pigeons but his shotgun has a hard kick and it literally knocks me off my feet. Plus it's very heavy. Matt says the 410 is like a 22 rifle so there's no kick. Other presents I got from family are, Julia Childs Mastering the Art of French Cooking Cook Book, Worldwide Ward Cook Book, Mary Poppins and Babysitting Coupons. I love to cook new recipes so I'm very excited with the books I got. I already tried some from the Worldwide Ward Book and I love it so far. Julia Childs is advanced so it will be a while before I have confidence to try them so I'm just reading and studying them right now.
Everyone stayed late to watch the big firework show with us. We passed the time by playing games and talking. The show was so good! It made up for the 4th. Evan actually watched them. I look forward to next year!

Skyline

On Friday we decided to take a drive that Matt's been wanting to show me for a while. He took this drive on his way to Girls Camp with Bishop and his wife. He thought it was one of the most beautiful drives. He was right! I really enjoyed it and hope we can do this more often. It was a four hour or so round trip drive through Spanish Fork canyon to Electric Lake and back to Spanish Fork by going through Scofield.

We sure love Alex! Evan thinks he's pretty cool. His reflux is under control but he still spits up like no other. He's lucky we love him so much because it gets everywhere. I've learned to always keep a burp rag on me at all times. Never needed one for Evan so it was a hard habit to break in not having one. It looks like he may not need medication for the reflux for long. I feel for the babies that still need it at a years age or longer because Alex hates the meds.


Alex is sleeping much better! He goes back to sleep on his own with no problems and in his own bed too! I feed him in bed but once he's done I swaddle him back up and but him in his bed even if he's still awake. He goes to sleep in no time. He's out of our room as well. Evan doesn't disturb him and Alex doesn't disturb Evan so it's a win, win situation for me! I was worried about it. So glad they both do well. Alex is having some long stretches at night but I hate that they're not constant. The earliest he will wake is after 3 1/2 hours and the longest thus far is 8 hours. So far he's only slept 8 hours for me once. Other then that he sleeps 4 to 6 hours. Evan's longest stretch was always 4 hours till he slept through the night at 3 Months. I'm hoping Alex will sleep through the night before that and on his own. I had to teach Evan.


Alex nickname should be Terk off of Tarzan. He almost always has his arms in that position like a gorilla.


Everyone comments on how strong his neck is because he has great head control. He's been like this ever since he was a day old. It was so funny watching his pedi lift him up to examine his head strength by his palm supporting his tummy. His head was completely up and he was looking around like he was older. He looked like a cute little turtle. If only I'm better at tummy time I'm sure he would be rolling around by now.


He got his first round of immunizations today. He did well considering he got poked two times in one leg and one in the other. He also had one oral. I hate shots especially when my kids get them but I choose to get them immunized because I want them to be healthy.

Happy 80th!

My Grandpa (Mom's Dad) turned 80 years old this year! The family got together at Layton Park Friday to celebrate. It was some what a reunion because Uncle Jim, Aunt Dixie (Malad, ID) along with cousins Brandon and Elizabeth (New York) were there. Matt and Evan were at a Father Son's camp out with our ward. It was fun to see everyone as always.

Thompson Reunion 2010

This years reunion was up in Redmond, Oregon. We absolutely enjoyed ourselves with our family! It was especially wonderful having Matt with us all day for 7 days! Evan was such an adventurous kid and loved everything we did. Alex did so well on this trip and was just a little cutie. Evan and Alex were the youngest kids there. We left on Wednesday June 30th. We only drove to Boise Idaho so we didn't make our kids sit in car seats all day. It was fun being able to play and enjoy our drive by visiting some sites. We stopped at the Twin Falls LDS Temple. Alex fell asleep before we stopped so we didn't take him out. After that we stopped at Shoshone Falls. We never been there before so I'm glad we did make the stop. It was worth paying to see it. The water was low so it wasn't full like it normally is but it was still very beautiful. Uncle Micheal and soon to be Aunt Julie with Evan We tried to get a family picture but Evan was being a little stinker. So we got one with just Alex. They're so much easier at this age :). After we got to our hotel and had dinner we took Evan and Alex swimming. This was Alex first time and he seemed to enjoy it because he didn't cry. I actually expected him too so I was pleasantly surprised he didn't. Evan was on cloud nine. He no longer hangs onto us so it fun watching him swim around on his own. Early next morning we drove the rest of the way to the reunion site. Our Room. When we get a bigger bed room, we'll need to buy a California King. It was so nice! Friday we went to Lava Butte It was chilly but very enjoyable. Made it nice for our hike that we made into the Lava Cave. It was even colder in the cave. I think it was about 30 to 40 degrees in there. Cold enough to see our breath. It didn't make it easy to take pictures inside but made some interesting photos. You couldn't do this hike without a flash light or lantern. It was pitch black in there. We were at the front of the group and we thought it was so cool looking back seeing all our family coming down the stairs with their lights on. The Cave was so interesting. I thought of The Chamber of Secrets. Probably because I was reading the series again. I also thought of The Goonies and Indiana Jones. Since it was a long hike I also thought of our Savior, specially on the way out. I made the hike back with just Julie since I couldn't go as far as everyone because the cave went to a crawl. I was holding Alex in the Snugli. Our single light lite our path so we can see. The Light of our Savior can also light our path and show us the way even if it's dark as dark as can be. Matt was was with Evan and during the part that you had to crawl, Evan was just walking since he's short enough. He held the lantern for everyone to see. He was their guide. The Cave got to the point where Matt couldn't go any further but Evan was so eager to keep going. He kept pointing deeper into the cave and saying "This way!" Before he went any further where Matt couldn't go after him he told him "Swimming pool that way". That got him to go out :). Alex slept the entire time :). When I got him out of the carrier and put him back in his car seat he stretched. Looked around And went to sleep! Since Julie came with us to the reunion and will be married to Micheal in September, I thought it would be fun to throw her a surprise shower since all the Thompson Aunts will be together. Micheal knew about it and helped distract her from the living room. I wish I had a picture of her reaction because it was so priceless. We played two games. One of the games she had to answer questions about Micheal that he answered earlier. If she got them wrong she had to put a piece of gum in her mouth. She ended up with 14 pieces in her mouth! YUCK! The other game was the matching candy bar game. Then she got to open presents! . The next day we all went to Smith Rock State Park. There are trails to hike and you can rock climb. No one had gear to rock climb but on my Mother In Law's hike she asked a group of rock climbers how they do it and they were kind enough to let her try it. She actually tried it after much support from the group. She loved it! There was a writer for an outdoor magazine out there and watched her climb. He took pictures and asked her questions. She was asked if he could quote her and put her picture in a magazine. She's famous! Matt took Evan on a 3 mile hike around that mountain and Evan walked the whole thing except for the last stretch. Matt says the switch backs are worse than the ones going up the Y Mountain. Way to go Evan! I stayed behind because I was sore from the Lava Cave. I need to get back into shape! This is Evan after the hike. He was so tired! Later that evening Matt, Nathan and Uncle Devan put on a funny show for us. I made a video but blogger isn't letting me upload it for some reason. Sad because it was so funny. On the 4th of July we celebrated not only our Nation's Freedom but also Leanna's 20th Birthday! She's no longer a teenager. We had FHE and talked about Captine Moroni. For our activity we made our own Family Title of Liberty. We wrote standards that our family stands for on a white t-shirt. Since we weren't allowed to shoot off fireworks at the house, we exploded Diet Coke with mentos instead. Not the brightest display but fun results :). After dark we got to watch the big fireworks in town. Evan wasn't interested in them but truthfully they were very dissapointing. Monday was the end of the reunion but we drove to the Sacramento area to visit Grandma Haymore and the rest of the Haymore clan. Their reunion is coming up in August but Grandma wont be able to come so we wanted to make sure and see her since she hasn't seen Alex yet. I have no pictures of this but on Tuesday Matt, me, Leanna and Evan went to Sunsplash with our cousins. Yes I left Alex for a few hours and missed him like crazy but it was a very nice break. It was a lot of fun! They have some fun slides that actually scared me. That's unusual for me. They also have a wave pool. It made me miss Surf n Swim so we plan on going there on a Saturday sometime soon. Anyones invited! Wednesday we drove back home. It was an awesome reunion and we look forward to next years as always. It's our turn to plan it so I'm looking forward to getting plans together.
