Family Pictures

Saturday, during Memorial weekend, Matt's family got together to take some family pictures. Our photographer was Jenae Lee. I really thought the pictures turned out so nice. I haven't gotten all of the photo's back but here is a sneak peak.





You can't tell but it was raining lightly and it was really windy. Usually Evan is so easy to get to smile but Jenae had a hard time getting him to do so. I don't blame him because it was so cold! The picture of us in the circle is the face he was giving most of the time. When I get my own CD of the photo shoot, I will post more pictures

Memorial Day

We hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend even though the weather was gloomy and wet here in Utah. The rain didn't stop us from wanting to go out so we did. Grandma and Grandpa Thompson took Evan under their wings so we could hike to Fifth Waters in Spanish Fork Canyon. Amy and Austin braved it with us. It was sprinkling as we drove up to the Trail head. When we got out of the car and started walking, the rain stopped. The smell was heavenly on the trail until we got closer to our destinations. If any of you haven't heard of Fifth Waters, its a trail that leads to some Hot Pots so their was a lovely smell of sulfur in the air. Despite the smell, the trail was beautiful.



After a 2.5 mile hike, the water was very enjoyable. It was so nice to relax and talk with fellow hikers.

Considering that it was a rainy and cold day, it was actually really nice. We couldn't have timed it any better. The sun came out for us but as we were walking back to the car, it started raining again. I was the only one that managed to get mud all over the back of my pants. I don't know how everyone else came out of that pretty clean.

Mesquite and St. George

Our cousin Nathan got married Saturday in the St. George Temple so we headed our way down Thursday so it wasn’t a quick trip. We stayed in Mesquite so we can make a vacation out of it. Friday we spent some of the time at the pool. It was Evan's first time. He loves his baths so we thought he would love the pool but he didn't seem to enjoy it as much because the water was cold. Once he got used to it he was fine. We wore him out because he almost fell asleep in his floaty.






Later that day, our Aunt and Uncle came down from Las Vegas to see us. We had a great time talking and enjoying a great dinner at Playoffs. We wished they lived closer to us.



That evening our friends Amy and Austin came up so they can have a small vacation as well. For the rest of the evening before Evan’s bedtime, we swam at the pool again.

Saturday was a beautiful day for a wedding. The St. George Temple is beautiful and the ceremony was a wonderful experience. Nathan was handsome and his bride, Erica, was beautiful. Before they came out for pictures we enjoyed the sunshine and the opportunity to take a few pictures on the grounds.

Their reception was beautiful and we had a great time. It kind of reminded me of mine.


Before we drove home on Sunday, we stopped by again and went to church with our family. We were in no hurry to get home.

6 Months!

Evan is now half a year old! We took him into the doctors Monday for his annual visit and to get the last round of immunization shots till he's a year old. I'm glad we have awhile till then.

Evan is now 14 lb 3oz. When I heard that I got really worried because he only gained a pound since the last visit but the doctor assured me that it's normal for them to not gain so much weight when they start becoming so active. He doesn't look malnourished and his color is good so there is no cause for concern. He's 26.1 inches and his head is 41 cm.

Happy Birthday!!

We are already into May and the Sun has come out of hiding. Spring is finally here! It rained most of the day today. Yay! Not snow. Earlier in the month we had a Thunderstorm. I wish we had more of them. It was fun watching Evan's expression when I rapped him up and took him outside. He really didn't know what to do with all the noise.
We've been so busy that I kept forgetting to get on here. On older news, April 26th was the County Convention. Since Matt and I were elected as delegates, we got the opportunity to go. My Father In-Law was awarded The Ronald Reagan Award for his dedicated service over the years in the Utah County Republican Party.



I'm truly proud of all the accomplishments that he's done and how well he works through challenges. We knew about the award before him. It was a hard secret to keep from him but it was well worth it because of his reaction when he saw his family come on stage with the award in hand. Other details worth mentioning about the Convention is that Evan met a lot of government officials like Senator Bennett, Senator Hatch, Lt. Governor Herbert, Congressman Chris Cannon, Attorney General Mark Shurtleff and many other state senators and legislators. The proud Grandpa took him around to show him off. Senator Bennett made the comment, "Oh, he must be the youngest republican here." He was right!
In other news, Matt turned 24 on the 4th. The Saturday prior, we celebrated by going to West Mountain to shoot guns with his new 12 Gauge Shotgun that I gave him for his birthday. Friends and family joined us.





After trying the shotgun I can now say that I love my small 22 rifle even more! I need more muscle and more weight to shoot that thing. Afterwards we had a yummy BBQ in his honor.

Spring?

What kind of spring is this? I know this is Salt Lakes forecast but it's pretty much the same in Utah Valley. I just got back from Spanish Fork because I helped my parents by picking up Ellen from school and let me tell ya, the wind doesn't help much either. My Grandpa Glover calls the snow “white manure". I agree with him. I'm ready for summer!!

Evan Updates

He's getting so big and cutter everyday. These pictures were taken during the beginning of the month. He's sitting up better at this point but he's taking his nap and Matt has the camera so I can't take an updated photo. This is the first time he's sat-up on his own for a long time without falling.

Update

I guess it's been a while since I last blogged. It's amazing how much time passes. I guess that's what happens when you get so busy. The past couple of days Matt has been working hard in our yard. I've helped but Matt deserves the praise on this because he worked so hard. It's coming up on a year since we've moved into our home. Through out that time we've been playing with our sprinkler system to get it to do what we want but it's been tricky because it's galvanized. We don't have the knowledge or the tools to fix the pipes so we had to bring in professionals. We decided just to put in a whole new system because we were tired of the hassle. In the long run it will save us a lot of money and we could fix it ourselves. The one thing I love about the new system is that it will be on a timer. All of last summer, I had to go out and turn it on and off manually.

After removing the sod, the hard work was digging out the trenches.

Last Friday, my dad came by and helped before night fell. Saturday, Matt's Dad helped in the morning and than my Dad came back with Joseph. Why this was going on, Nathan and Elizabeth were slaving over a hot grill, smoking Ribs and Chicken. The rest of my family came over for the BBQ but once we were done, it was back to the yard. After all the trenches were dug, Matt and his Dad started putting in the system.

It's not completely finished but close. Since we've been doing this, Evan has been enjoying the out doors. It's a whole new world to him.

2008 Hyundai Sonata

Matt and I decided it was time to purchase a second car. We didn't think it was necessary to have the luxury to have one because I just stayed home and worked. Now that Evan is here, not only is it smart but we were also sick of pulling the front seat forward, lifting the car seat up and pushing the seat back just to put him in because we were driving a two door car. Just opening the door and placing him on his base was the first thing we noticed when we test drove the new car. Four door cars are a beautiful thing! We were going to wait a few more months to purchase one but we couldn't pass up the good deal we got after the dealer lowered the price a $1,000 more when it was already $2000.00 cheaper from the sale price. We've had it for a couple weeks now and we are so happy with it and we are glad we didn't wait.
