First Born Tag

Our baby boy just had his first birthday so this Tag is dedicated to him. Here is a description of our day one year ago . . .the best day of our lives.




BABIES FULL NAME? Evan Matthew Thompson



WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THAT SPECIFIC NAME? Matt and I had a hard time deciding on boy names because we didn’t like what each other liked. We almost named him Camden but we were afraid people will make fun of him because it’s the last name of the 7th Heaven family. Anyways, just one day I was outside and I heard the name Evan and I thought it was a nice name so I told Matt. To my surprise he liked it because it was his Grandpa’s name. Even though I’ve met Grandpa Thompson a couple of times I don’t remember ever hearing his name. It grew on us the next couple of days so we decided his name will be Evan after his Great Grandpa Thompson and Matthew after his Daddy. Great Grandpa’s full name is Evan M. Thompson.


WHAT WERE YOUR REACTIONS? We were both ecstatic! We found out at 10:30 p.m and we were too excited to wait till the morning so we went to our parent’s homes to tell them our good news.


DID YOU WANT TO FIND OUT THE SEX? Yes! We just couldn’t wait the full 9 months to find out.

WHAT DID YOU CRAVE? Mexican Food


WHO IRRITATED YOU THE MOST? Everyone had their moments

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CHILD'S SEX? Boy

DID YOU HAVE ANY COMPLICATIONS WITH YOUR PREGNANCY? Nothing too serious. I had to take things easy the last 4 weeks of pregnancy because I went into pre-term labor at 35 weeks and 6 days. They made me take more naps during the day and not to do heavy labor around the house. Oh darn :)! At my 40 week appointment my doctor checked me after being away for 2 weeks and was worried about the size of his head against my pelvis. He told me to anticipate a C-Section if he doesn’t come in the next 5 days.


HOW MANY HOURS WERE YOU IN LABOR? 10 hours


WHO DROVE YOU TO THE HOSPITAL? Matt. It was around 5:00 am so hardly anyone was on the roads yet so it was a calm ride even though I was having some painful contractions.


WHO WAS IN THE DELIVERY ROOM? Just Matt


WAS IT NATURAL OR C-SECTION? C-Section


DID YOU HAVE AN EPIDURAL? Heck yes! I asked for it right after they checked everything. I was only in the hospital an hour.


HOW MUCH DID YOUR BABY WEIGH? 7 lbs 13 oz and 20 in long


DID YOUR BABY HAVE ANY COMPLICATIONS? A few. Since he came on his own my doctor let me labor and try for a regular delivery because he didn’t think he could persuade me the other way from the beginning. I’m grateful that he allowed that because he was there for me and not just the money and I got to see how the natural process works if I have nothing but c-sections from now on. They broke my water and saw that he went #2 so the NICU was on standby. They gave me pitocin after a while to speed things up. After the first hour of monitoring the baby and I, things were going great so they doubled my dose. After a few mins, my nurses came rushing back in because Evan’s heart rate dropped. After putting me on oxygen and putting me on my side his heart rate was still low so they had to stop my contractions completely. They let things go for an hour to see where things were. My contractions came back but nothing was progressing so my doctor gave me the option to either move forward on the regular delivery or the c-section. We decided on the c-section because we didn’t want to risk an emergency one so we just went for it then. When he was born he was using all his energy to breathe so they took him to NICU to monitor him. He was doing great and he even beat me to the 3rd floor where the post partum rooms and nursery were.

Happy November!

I'm surprised that it's been really warm these past couple weeks. Usually it's so cold and we usually have snow from what I remember around this time. It was such a beautiful day that I couldn't have picked a better day to get Evan's 1 Year pictures done by a sweet lady in our old ward. She's the same lady that did our family pictures earlier in the year. I know he has another week left till he turns 1 but I don't think it will make a huge difference and plus I wanted to have his pictures for his party we're throwing for him. We had blue skies with a light breeze. She got some really cute shots of him and since yesterday was Halloween, she took a few in his costume. I got a few with my camera but other than that, I have no idea how the pictures turned out except for a few in the tree's. I'm looking forward to seeing them.


Instead of just going home or staying over at our Parents places since we were already down there, we took a drive up to Strawberry Reservoir through Provo Canyon. It was a beautiful drive and on our way home we decided to take Spanish Fork Canyon instead of another route that Matt planned to take. We were amazed at the view and had to stop to get pictures.








I'm so glad that we decided to go on the drive on the spur of the moment because I feel rejuvenated for another week.

This was Evan's first Halloween. He loved his socks because they light up on the side. He just wouldn't pose for the camera with them on.


I did get him to look after a while.


Evan and I were invited to Matt's Halloween Lunch at his office. They had yummy soups, salads and other treats. Pretty much everyone dressed up. They had some great costumes. Evan was dressed in his fun costume for everyone to see. He had a fun time monkeying around.



In the evening we didn't want to take Evan Trick or Treating. Matt and I don't need any candy! We just wanted to have a relaxing night by visiting our families. After lunch Evan was a little cranky since he's teething. He wouldn't take a good nap so I was a little worried about going any where tonight but he was fine once we left. He was his old self and having fun showing off his costume.

Pumpkins!

For Family Home Evening this last Monday we went out and bought our pumpkins so we could do some carving. This is mine and Matt's 4th Halloween together but this is the first time we actually carved pumpkins. I know, we are lame! I was excited to see what Evan would do with the pumpkins. Of course he was his happy self.

He wasn't too thrilled with the cleaning out process. He wouldn't stick his hand in there like we hoped he would. Instead he was just interested in the seed that was on the top.

"I Hope they Call Me on a Mission"

I remember Ammon singing that when he was little. It's hard to believe that he is no longer "little" but an adult that will be gone for two years serving our Heavenly Father. I'm so proud of him!
Last Friday, My mom called me with excitment because Ammon finally recieved his mission call. After Matt got off work we went to Spanish Fork so we can be there when he opened his letter.

Abby turns 4!

It's been a while since I last posted. Not a lot has gone on but at the same time we've been really busy.
Evan has managed to say other words like OK and YEAH. He still says Kiddy a lot. He's walking a lot more and for longer periods. Before we know it he will be all over the house. Two weeks from Sunday and our little boy will be a year old! Time needs to slow down.
Speaking of turning another year older, my youngest sister Abby, turned 4 years old today. I'm glad Evan can grow up with his Aunt. Abby was close to the same age as Evan now when Matt and I started dating. Matt always told me the only reason why he's marrying me is because of how fun and good Abby was. He was amazed at how easy it was to put her to bed. He hoped our kids will do the same and so far so good! We had fun spending time and having dinner with her and the family tonight. We had the classic Mac n Cheese with hot hogs. Abby's choice of course.

First Word

I'm sad to say, it wasn't Momma or Dadda. We did hear those words from him but it was discriminately so I don't think that counts. The first word we heard from his mouth and him knowing what it meant was Kitty. It sounds more like kiddy. He only says it when he sees a cat or hears one. I was heading out the door from Matt's parent's house to go visit my mom last week and White Socks (Matt's childhood cat) was on the porch. Evan saw him and went nuts. I called Matt and everyone else to come watch and all of a sudden, we all heard him say Kiddy a couple of times. I wasn't the only one that heard him so I have back up. This morning I heard Nathaniel's and Elizabeth's cats meowing in the hall and Evan happened to hear them as well because he started to get excited and started to say kiddy again. I can't believe how smart he is and he just turned 11 Months today. Last week he also learned how to put away his toys. I hand him a toy and he puts it away where it belongs. I love to watch him learn and I can't wait for him to talk more.

He has us wrapped around his little fingers and we will do anything for him.

Grandma Haymore

We jumped at the opportunity of going to the Sacramento area to see our Grandma (Matt's Mother's Mom) that hasn't been doing too well. She's been struggling with health problems and is now in the hospital. We wanted to make sure and see her before anything happened. We heard about her condition Thursday afternoon and drove through the night so we could be with her as soon as possible. We really enjoyed visiting with her. She is such a great lady. We also did other things while we were there. We took Evan to the Ranch and got to see some family. After lunch on Saturday we met up with one of our Aunt and Uncle's from the Thompson side and spent the day at Bishop's Pumpkin Farm. We watched a pig race. Our pig won!
We had fun playing in a fort. Being in jail was also fun. We don't know who that other kid is. The train ride was cool. And the best part was the Petting Zoo. I always wanted a goat but this is the closest that I will ever get to having one. The babies were so cute and it was fun watching Evan with them. You got to watch this video


Sunday was a day for us to relax. We went to church with our cousin and her cute daughter but then we had a much needed nap when we got home. I love it when Evan takes long naps so we can get in a few hours of sleep. Later that evening the family in the area got together and had a yummy steak dinner. It happened to be just cousins because all the Aunts and Uncles were at the Hospital with Grandma. We had a great time playing Wii. We never played with one before. It was interesting but fun. Our cousin Jill has a son that looks really similar to Evan. The younger kids thought Evan was Bradley from behind. It was so funny. It took a few shots because Evan was being a goof ball and they liked to crawl off but I got a good one of them together as requested.

Bradley just turned a year old on the 20th so Happy Birthday Bradley!

All around it was a great trip and we were sad to leave Monday. We hope there is another chance for us to go up again or have them come see us.

The drive home was a little tricky with Evan not wanting to sleep except during his normal nap times so we made him this fort and he watched Elmo's World over and over till it got dark. As you can see he rather enjoyed himself.
